| Thank You Acura Classic Tennis Fans
It was another fantastic year of tennis at the 2006 Acura Classic. Large, enthusiastic crowds came to watch the best tennis players in the world and they weren’t disappointed as Maria Sharapova and Kim Clijsters played a great final. Defending champion Mary Pierce, playing her first tournament in six months, reached the quarterfinals before falling to Sharapova. The Acura Classic was happy to see the return of former two-time tournament champion Martina Hingis. The crafty Swiss player delighted fans with her style of play as she made a run to the quarterfinals. Fans also got to see the future of women’s professional tennis as they watched players such as hard-serving Ana Ivanovic, a 19-year-old from Serbia, and 17-year-old Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic. Vaidisova impressed fans all week as she made the semifinals before losing a tough match to Clijsters. As a result of her semifinal finish, Vaidisova will be ranked Top Ten in the world the week of August 7. Thank you Acura Classic tennis fans. We hope you enjoyed the 2006 Acura Clasic.
