Don’t look now Acura Classic tennis fans, seventh-seeded
Kim Clijsters of Belgium is on a roll.
After losing only four games in her first match, Clijsters faced
Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic who is ranked 19th in the world.
Playing on Stadium Court with determination and confidence, Clijsters
eliminated Jankovic, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to Friday’s quarterfinal
round.
Clijsters, who needed only one-hour and 18 minutes to advance,
won the first five games of the match as she capitalized on two
service breaks. After Jankovic held serve to make the score 5-1,
Clijsters easily served out the first set.
The Belgian continued her hot streak as she began the second set
by winning the first four games. Jankovic staged a brief rally as
she used two service breaks to win three of the next four games.
Jankovic served to stay in the match at 5-3 but on game point she
threw in a double fault and went on to drop the match.
